Tour the Garden with Maggie

Maggie in the Glendeven Garden 2.jpg

This year we redoubled our efforts to grow as much food for our breakfasts and our Shared Table dinners as possible right here on property.

We have berries, multiple kinds of kale and lettuces, an Herb Spiral, rhubarb, leeks, multiple kinds of onions, various potatoes, zucchini, various bush and pole beans, edible flowers, beets and other root vegetables, and much more!  We are using our greenhouse for starts and seeds.  We use the property's own cuttings and manure for the best, richest compost ever.

We are also trying out new things and making plans to expand the beds as we look ahead to our new restaurant coming early next year at the new Lodge at Glendeven.

Maggie has done an amazing job in a very short period of time with what we're growing here!  Guests have enjoyed meeting and chatting with her in the garden as she works. We've decided to officially offer consults and informal chats with her so we can help inspire you as you work and plan your own home gardens.

Here is a note from Maggie....

Hello!  I look forward to meeting you!  I'm so happy to be able to provide tours of our vegetable and cutting flower areas, garden classes on specific topics, or garden consults if you want guidance on your own gardens at home.

A little more about me: I was born and raised in Fort Bragg, California just 10 miles north of Glendeven.  I had little interest of gardening as a kid even though my mom always had a big garden in our backyard and taught Garden & Nutrition at the local schools. I took all of the access to garden fresh produce for granted and did not recognize how important my time in the garden was.

After a couple of years away from home, I discovered my own love of seeds and soil. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Conservation & Resource Studies with a concentration in Food Systems.

I have spent the last few years working for a variety of non-profit and market farms across California and fall deeper in love with plants every day. My own experiences of the healing potential of gardens has led me to herbal medicine and a masters program in Integrative Health Studies.

Whatever your garden interest or inquiry, I'm happy to meet you for a detailed discussion about compost & soil health, a simple chat about plant identification, container herb garden design, tips for growing your own flowers, or whatever you may like to know!
